Rediscovering (Walt) Disney

Comedian George Carlin died on Sunday of apparent heart failure. I never saw him live but I did see him several times on his HBO specials and we own his last album (That's a CD for you kids.). Probably most famous for the "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television" from his 1972 album Class Clown , and among his movie credits; "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" (1989), "Dogma" (1999) & "Cars" (2006). Not so much a review as a discussion of what’s to come… As I sat watching the “Incredible Hulk” Thursday night, between the tittering teenagers and the guy kicking the back of my seat (this is why I love DVD & home theaters), I kept thinking; oh man, movie Iron Man will kick your movie Hulk @$$! And I’ll gladly pay my $10.00 to see that!!! Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios have created a third Marvel Universe, the Movie-verse?, Studio-verse maybe? Anyway, after seeing Ultimate Nick Fury show up at the end of "Iron Man" and then Movie Tony Stark approaching Thunderbolt Ross in "Incredible Hulk", you know there is gonna be a throwdown in tinseltown. But who’s gonna be throwin’ down whom? Will it be the Marvel U., The Ultimate U. or this newly born Movie U.? Obviously it’s the Movie U. with its own happy gathering of Marvel’s Merry Marching Society, charging full steam ahead into an Avengers franchise. As Ryan so succinctly put it... "It's a lot better than the first one." From the mouth's of babes, right? Well, young adults would be more accurate. I'm going to do a review, and more in my next post but for those of you who need to know... Ryan and I will both give it a B bordering on a B+ . My biggest problem with the film was the CGI. Not the quality (which for the most part was great) but the over-use of it, see below. SPOILER ALERT: The final battle between Abomination and the Hulk was a lot like watching a video game. So next up: AVENGERS: ASSEMBLE!

What a shame. We have lost so many talented and creative folk this past year. And now one of the greatest (if not the greatest) special effects pioneers. Stan Winston, father of the Alien, the Predator and this summer's Iron Man died Sunday after a lengthy bout with myeloma. This guy could make anything, no matter how fantastic, seem real and alive.
