'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' Trailer

Here's another one I was ready to write off and what do they do? The brand it Marvel Knights, rate it "R" and put Idris Elba in the cast. I may not go to the theater to see it, but I will watch it. Nicolas Cage returns as Johnny Blaze in Columbia Pictures' and Hyde Park Entertainment's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. In the successor to the worldwide hit Ghost Rider, Johnny - still struggling with his curse as the devil's bounty hunter - is hiding out in a remote part of Eastern Europe when he is recruited by a secret sect of the church to save a young boy (Fergus Riordan) from the devil (Ciaran Hinds). At first, Johnny is reluctant to embrace the power of the Ghost Rider, but it is the only way to protect the boy - and possibly rid himself of his curse forever. Directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor. Screenplay by Scott M. Gimple & Seth Hoffman and David S. Goyer. Story by David S. Goyer. Based on the Marvel Comic. Produced by Steven Paul, Ashok

The Lost Hellman Theaters

As I was researching a couple of other theaters, including the Hellman, when I came across these two newspaper articles. They both address a project I had never heard of and that apparently never came to be: Construction of another Hellman-owned theater at Stuyvesant Plaza on Western Avenue. The first article is from the Altamont Enterprise and is dated April 30, 1965... The second article, from the Amsterdam Evening Recorder October 5, 1965, had an even bigger surprise included. The Hellman's had planned to build a second theater next to the existing Hellman Theatre on Washington Avenue. I can only imagine how cool that would have been, two giant-screened movie houses right next to each other!

Scenes from Unusual Suspects

Here is a little taste of my last project, an episode of "Unusual Suspects" on Investigation Discovery. "Getting Even" is scheduled for August 21, at 10PM est . In 1985 when welder Danny Paquette is killed in his front yard by a long-distance rifle shot, there is no shortage of suspects. Many people had issues with Danny. First Look: Henry Cavill as Superman

Okay, so it's only the first look, and WAY better than Wonder Woman, but I have to say I am not all that impressed. Can we for once, just lay of the textured, unnecessarily padded and tweaked costumes? The raised "S" shield looks like it's about to peal off and that cape must weigh 50 lbs. And those rubbery looking, dull blue tights look like they came from Spider-man's tailor. I give the new super-suit a B-. The film also stars Amy Adams as Daily Planet journalist Lois Lane, and Laurence Fishburne as her editor-in-chief, Perry White. Starring as Clark Kent's adoptive parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, are Diane Lane and Kevin Costner. Squaring off against the superhero are two other surviving Kryptonians, the villainous General Zod, played by Michael Shannon, and Faora, Zod's evil partner, played by Antje Traue. "Captain America: The First Avenger" - A Conversation between Geeks

SPOILER ALERT! As with "Thor" my pre-Captain America-viewing, and post-viewing contact was LA Filmcutter . Notes have been compared and a review (more like a conversation between geeks) has been written... 11:00 AM [text message from AP]: Headed to theater for Capt America [text message from LA]: Can't wait to hear your thoughts. As always, make sure you stay through the credits. [AP]: Right! 1:34 PM [AP]: Wow! That was great! Credits are rolling. 1:58 PM [AP]: There is so much to like about that movie! [LA]: Yes, yes, and... ? [AP]: Facebooking ya! [LA]: Cool! 2:30 PM (Facebook Message from AP): Okay, let's review this thing! First off, if only Joe Johnston had had that kind of budget, effects and studio support when he made "The Rocketeer!" Second, it was just a great, good old-fashioned, action movie! But where do you really begin? Winks and nods to the history of Cap, the Howling Commandos, Indiana Jones, The Rocketeer, jeez wha

The Utilidors at Walt Disney World

Here's a fun little FYI post. Nothing new that most of you didn't know already, but it's fun to pull back the curtain sometimes and see what's going on back there... According to modern legend, Walt Disney was bothered by the sight of a cowboy walking through Disneyland's Tomorrowland enroute to his post in Frontierland. He felt that such a sight was jarring, and detracted from the guest experience. When the Florida park was being planned, engineers designed utilidors to keep park operations out of guests' sight. The utilidors are beneath the Magic Kingdom, but they are not a basement; they are actually the ground level of the Magic Kingdom. The park itself is actually the second level. Parts of Fantasyland, including Cinderella's Castle, are at third-story-level (this is why the castle seems to loom so large as guests approach it via Main Street, USA). The ground's incline is so gradual that guests do not realize they are ascending to the second and
