Raiders of the Lost Ark Memorabilia - Part 3

I kept three things from the premiere of "Raiders of the Lost Ark" - An enduring love of the film, the Collector's Album and my ticket stubs. I saw Raiders at the Cine 1-6 in Colonie, NY. That theater is sadly now gone, but you can read more about it here , here or here . Its hard to believe that the ticket stubs have survived this long. Up until last year they traveled in the relative safety of my Raiders scrapbook. What? Oh yes, I made a scrapbook. I had a "Star Wars" one also, but I have NO idea what became of it. And that's really a mystery and a shame, that scrapbook had my ticket stubs and some great newspaper clippings and ads from the Times Union in Albany. Anyway, the Collector's Album was available for purchase at the concession stand for a whopping $3.00! 'Yeah, I'd like a large coke, a large popcorn a copy of that book please.' It was basically a "making of" magazine filled with storyboards, sketches, photos and stills ...

Raiders of the Lost Ark Memorabilia - Part 2

Last time... The Star Wars Fan Club also gave you an opportunity to purchase an original Raiders One Sheet. All you had to do was mail in a SASE with a check for a whopping $7.00 plus shipping & handling. Then wait patiently for the men and women of the US Post Office to complete their appointed rounds and... five months after the premiere of Raiders you would have your very own "Raiders of the Lost Ark" One Sheet! And here it is... Actually this is a nice big scan from kennmac's Photobucket album . Here's mine, framed and looking for some wall space. I did have it hanging up in my home office (along with Temple of Doom, Last Crusade and Crystal Skull), but when Maddy's Princess Playroom took over Indy was assigned a number and wheeled off into an undisclosed warehouse by our 'top men.' As I did with the Raiders flyer that came in the mail I saved the SASE from the one sheet order. It's the closest thing I have to a certificate of authenticity. The...

Raiders of the Lost Ark Memorabilia - Part 1

Back in the late 70's early 80's (if you were a card carrying member of the Star Wars Fan Club, and I was) you would have received a flyer in the mail announcing the release of "Raiders of the Lost Ark." And yes I did say mail, you have to remember this was the dark ages. Before the interweb and electronic mail there was only the pony express and the occasional mailman! Here is the front of the flyer: And here's the back: And yes I did save the envelope too: The Star Wars Fan Club also gave you an opportunity to purchase an original Raiders One Sheet. So, do you wanna see it? Guess you're gonna have to wait like I did!

First Official (CGI) Image From Pixar’s "Brave"

Disney Pixar France released the first official, film-based image from Disney/Pixar’s "Brave" - Princess Merida, on horseback with her bow drawn. This image is almost identical to the concept artwork that was released a few months ago. This is Pixar’s 13th feature-length film (due out June 22, 2012) and it will be their first fairy tale. Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest — and serving as comic relief — are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord ...

Smells Like Death

Here's the last of the D.B. DeMille movie posters. I did start out to make a very retro 50's - 60's horror movie poster but turns out it had a mind of its own and skewed modern. And hey, I like the way it turned out so that's cool. Maybe someday I'll revisit the retro version. I needed a back story to help me navigate the design and images I had floating around in my head... Following the "Every Man" virus outbreak of 2024 the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) forms the Division of Undead Containment (DUC). Using re-purposed cadaver dogs these zombie SWAT teams have the unpleasant but necessary task of searching house-to-house, locating, and destroying zombie nests. And here are links to the other two posters in this series: Terror-saurus Hex Blacktop Bombshell

Hooksett shines for Hollywood (Candia & Manchester too!) – Part 2

Day 6 – 5/10/11 Today is our first day of recreations. We’re headed to Candia and to Car World and a nice farmhouse location. I arrive a bit early and begin to wonder where everyone is when they call to let me know that their GPS took them a bit out of the way. So in the meantime I start setting up the junk cars we need for our first scene. Once the crew finally arrives things appear to be going well, one of our actors arrives and we get a third PA (hooray!). Bob our director stages the junk cars to his liking and he and the DP start blocking out camera moves, etc. We are twenty minutes past call time and our second actor has not arrived so I call him. He claims to have called the L.A. office to beg off, says he had an emergency. Hmmm… no time to get a replacement so what does the director do? He puts the sound guy and me in as actors! Meanwhile we’ve sent our third PA to FedEx to return a costume to L.A. (yes it HAS to go today!) About an hour later we get a call from him, he’s by the...

Hooksett shines for Hollywood (Candia & Manchester too!) – Part 1

This past week I had a gig as a Key Set PA with LMNO Productions (Encino, CA). They were in town to shoot an episode of "Unusual Suspects" for Investigation Discovery (ID). The episode covers the murder of Danny Paquette in 1985, the on again, off again investigation that followed, and finally solving the case 20 years later. Here’s a diary of my 8 days with LMNO… Day 1 – 5/5/11 Location scout and photo safari. Drove to Candia and Manchester to see business and house locations took photos and reported back to the L.A. office. Day 2 – 5/7/11 Had the day off Friday as the crew finished up a shoot in NY and the director flew in from L.A. Met the director and another PA at the Hilton Garden Inn (Manchester), after intros, small talk and a brief overview of the day’s schedule we headed upstairs to get ready for the first round of taped interviews. Interview One – Bill Shackford (Hooksett Police, Ret.). After Bill’s interview we drove to Hooksett to shoot at Bill’s house. Went to...

The Nautilus surfaces at EPCOT

Okay, so I read a rumor online that one of the 20k ride Nautilus subs was "dry docked" behind The Land pavilion in Epcot. I chuckled and thought that was just silly, wouldn't it be behind The Living Seas? At least that makes sense. But I was curious and had to know for myself, not being a Cast Member or a Florida resident I needed either a WDW insider or a satellite photo. I chose satellite photo, surfed over to Google Maps, typed in the address and here is what I discovered... Now, do my eyes deceive me or is that indeed the shape of one of our beloved ride vehicles? You can compare the outline of the image in the photo to these blueprints... I do not know how long ago this image was shot, could be a year or more old at this point. So, number one: Is it still there? Number two: Why is it there? And number three: How am I going to get back there to take photos of it for myself?! Anybody up for a road trip?
